Gorgeous trulli and sumptuous mealtimes—welcome to the sweet life

Puglia sits in the heel of Italy’s boot, its sun-soaked coastline hugging both the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. Landscapes are known for their trulli stone dwellings, whose pointed roofs pepper hilltops like bee hives. Alberobello won’t disappoint for views of the trulli in their greatest abundance, or the provincial capital Lecce is equally lovely with its Baroque architecture. The flat land is rich with local produce; try sheep’s cheeses, almond desserts, and homemade pasta, especially orecchiette. And remember, la dolce vita: lunches are long, nonnas sit and chat, and siestas are the norm.
